Structural Thermal Break connections increase the overall effectiveness of the Thermal Break system they are used in conjunction with.,
STB-1 Thermal Break washers and bushings can be used on the warm face of the structure, and including a thermal break at the bolt connection will reduce heat loss an additional 4% per bolt, depending on the wall assembly connection. Without these thermal break solutions, condensation can occur on the bolt heads which can develop into damp and mold issues.Â
The typical thermal break system includes 2 thermal break washers, 2 thermal break bushings and 4 USS washers per hole as shown in the image above.

Thermal break washers are made from STB-1 Structural Thermal Break material and are typically 1/4" (6.40 mm) thick, It is suggested to use 2 pieces of USS size steel washers for each thermal break washer to protect the thermal break washer from cracking / being damaged due to torque pressure.Â
