Aramid Woven Cloth
Aramid fibers are typically gold in color and require very sharp shears for cutting. Kevlar is DuPont’s trade name for aramid. The best applications are where toughness is desired. Aramid is difficult to sand and is adversely affected by UV light so it is often buried under fiberglass or other material.
Aramid cloths (such as Kevlar® and Twaron®) are very high tenacity man-made fibres with excellent mechanical properties in tensile strength and especially in elongation-to-break. Aramid cloth also has excellent abrasion and heat resistance and laminates made using aramids offer much improved impact protection.
